Kay Vess has many talents—shooting, swindling, and looking mildly annoyed at droids—but slicing into Imperial terminals is not one of them until she earns the Slicing Kit in Star Wars Outlaws. In 2026, this scruffy little gadget remains the difference between a smooth-talking scoundrel and a scoundrel who has to awkwardly ask a Stormtrooper for Wi-Fi. The kit unlocks hacking opportunities across the galaxy, letting players peek at restricted data, open stubborn doors, and generally make a nuisance of themselves in places they absolutely should not be.

Unfortunately, the Slicing Kit is not sold by a cheerful vendor with a discount policy. Players must work through a chain of quests, eavesdrop on strangers, sneak through Imperial outposts, and rescue a legendary slicer before the kit lands in Kay’s pocket. The good news? The route is memorable. The bad news? It involves far more crouching than a yoga class.

The Short Version

Step Where What Happens
1 Story progress Finish the ‘Underworld’ mission, then the ‘New Tricks’ main quest
2 Makal’s Gambling Parlor, Mirogana Listen to two customers to unlock ‘Aila’s Contact’
3 Crimson Dawn District, north Mirogana Meet Aila’s contact on the landing pad
4 Imperial Outpost, south-west of Mirogana Steal a device from an engineer using Nix
5 Imperial Forward Base, south-east Infiltrate the base and meet the legendary Slicer
6 Base rooftops Attach the device to the antenna, then shut down anti-air defences
7 Makal’s Gambling Parlor Return to Aila’s contact and collect the Slicing Kit

Step by Step: Earning the Kit

First, players need to push the story until the ‘Underworld’ quest is done—the one where Kay disables power cores and meets Danka, unlocking Reputation. That opens the ‘New Tricks’ main quest, and completing it unlocks ‘The Slicer’ expert intel in the journal. From there, the real scavenger hunt begins.

Head to Makal’s Gambling Parlor in Mirogana and find an unoccupied side of the bar. Two customers are having a conversation that is apparently more interesting than anything on the menu. Listen in, and the ‘Aila’s Contact’ intel appears.

Next, visit the Crimson Dawn District in north Mirogana. A ‘Good’ reputation with the syndicate lets players walk through the front entrance without a committee meeting, but the landing pad still requires a little stealth. Face the two guards blocking the pad entrance, then follow the path around to the right.

A stack of crates forms makeshift stairs up to the landing pad. Climb them, sneak toward the contact standing in the middle, and have a chat. That unlocks ‘The Slicer’ quest—the main event.

The first task sends Kay to an Imperial Outpost south-west of Mirogana. Stealth is strongly advised; Imperials are not famous for respecting personal space. Use Nix to pickpocket a device from an engineer in a grey jumpsuit, usually working near the tower in the rear corner.

With the device secured, head south-east to an Imperial Forward Base to meet Aila. The front door is, predictably, a terrible idea. Face the main entrance and look left for an incline leading up a cliff, with a gap toward the base. At the top, a grapple point awaits; swing across to the cave opposite.

Inside the cave, crawl through the vent and climb the ladder. This drops Kay behind some crates, which is the universal signal to crouch and pretend to be furniture. Sneak past Stormtroopers and officers, follow the quest marker, and reach the garage where Aila waits. She seals the doors, and the back room reveals the legendary Slicer herself.

After the conversation, exit through the vent on the left side of the room and use the ladder on the right outside. That leads to the roof, where the device must be attached to the antenna. Stormtroopers patrol up there, so subtlety remains the better part of not getting shot.

Once the device is attached, the anti-air defences need shutting down. From the antenna, head right and jump across to the opposite rooftop—the walls around the base. Follow the path left, clear or avoid enemies, and reach a large open rooftop. The quest marker points to the building opposite. Inside, use the rope on the walkway edge to rappel down.

Go through the door and deal with any enemies in the hangar—usually a Stormtrooper and an Imperial Officer with poor timing. To the right of the turbolift, a terminal offers the ‘Unlock Security Door’ command. Use it, watch the energy shield drop, and take the turbolift to the control room. After handling a few more enemies, hack the computer in the right-hand corner to shut down the defences.

Escape the compound, get far enough away, and the game prompts a return to Makal’s Gambling Parlor. Follow the marker to the small room opposite the bar—near where the eavesdropping began. Aila’s contact is leaning against the wall, looking as though waiting is a full-time job. Speak to them, complete the quest, and finally claim the Slicing Kit.

Upgrading the Slicing Kit

Getting the kit is only half the fun. Upgrading it turns Kay from a digital lockpick into a proper menace. Open the pause menu, go to the ‘Abilities’ tab, and select Aila. At the very end of her list sits the Slicing Kit upgrade. Hover over it to inspect the unlock requirements—because the galaxy loves a checklist—then apply the upgrade once those requirements are met.

A few practical notes for 2026 players: bring Nix everywhere, crouch like rent depends on it, and resist the urge to fistfight a Stormtrooper. Reputation with Crimson Dawn can make the district less painful, but the landing pad still demands a sneaky approach. And if a plan involves walking through an Imperial front door, it is not a plan—it is a future obituary. With patience, a bit of eavesdropping, and an unreasonable number of crates, the Slicing Kit will be slicing terminals in no time. 🚀
