Well, I’ve got some good news and some not-so-great news for you scoundrels waiting to explore the Outer Rim on Nintendo’s shiny new handheld. Ubisoft just confirmed that Star Wars: Outlaws is definitely coming to the Switch 2, but you’ll need to keep your blasters holstered a little longer. Mark your calendars for September 4, 2026, because that’s when you’ll finally be able to pull off heists on the go.
Ubisoft had already teased that Outlaws would be part of the Switch 2 lineup, but we were all crossing our fingers for a day-one drop alongside the console on June 5. Alas, the Force works in mysterious ways, and patience you must have. The wait might sting a bit, but honestly, given the state of the Switch 2 pre-order fiasco in North America right now, a little extra time to save some credits ain’t the worst thing.

For those who skipped it on PS5, Xbox, or PC, Star Wars: Outlaws is the first fully open-world Star Wars game, and it’s a blast. It’s set in the sweet spot between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, a time when the Galactic Civil War is raging and the criminal underworld is making bank. You play as Kay Vess, a small-time scoundrel who bites off more than she can chew and ends up with a death mark from one of the galaxy’s nastiest cartels. Teaming up with her adorable pet Nix, she’s got to pull off the ultimate heist to clear her name and get the hutt off her back.
Our reviewer gave it a 7 out of 10, praising the amazing exploration and the sheer fun of being a scoundrel in the Star Wars universe, but calling out the clunky stealth, repetitive combat, and a few too many bugs at launch. That was back in 2024 though, so I’m expecting a whole pile of patches and polish by the time it hits the Switch 2. (Fingers crossed, right?)
The Switch 2 launch itself has been a bit of a rollercoaster. With Nintendo wrestling with sudden tariffs imposed by the Republican administration, pre-orders for the US and Canada got tossed into limbo. We’re still not sure when they’ll open again, and that’s left a lot of us feeling more queasy than a tauntaun ride. So hearing concrete release dates for upcoming games is like a cool glass of blue milk on a Tatooine afternoon. Outlaws won’t be there June 5, but we’ve got plenty of other titles on the docket, and now we know exactly when Kay’s adventure lands.
Let’s be real: waiting three extra months isn’t the end of the world, and it gives the developers at Massive Entertainment more time to tweak the experience for Nintendo’s hardware. I’m personally stoked to see how the game handles on the Switch 2—will they nail the performance? Will Nix be even cuter on an OLED screen? Only time will tell.
One thing I’m particularly curious about is how the game’s reputation system will play out on the go. In Outlaws, every choice you make—whether you side with the Pykes, the Crimson Dawn, or the Hutts—changes how the galaxy treats you. I can already imagine grinding missions during my commute, trying to get in good with Jabba before I reach my stop. The game also lets you freely fly the Trailblazer between planets, so I’ll be the guy on the subway saying “pew pew” under his breath.
And let’s not forget Nix, Kay’s tiny Merqaal sidekick. This little critter can distract enemies, fetch items, and generally steal the show. On that crisp Switch 2 screen, I bet those big eyes will melt even the coldest bounty hunter’s heart. Tons of players fell head over heels for Nix back in 2024, and a whole new wave of fans is about to discover why. Heck, I might just play the whole game as a glorified Nix delivery service.
But wait, there’s more! During the same panel at Star Wars Celebration, Ubisoft also pulled the curtain back on the second story pack for Outlaws, called A Pirate’s Fortune. This one’s hitting all platforms on May 15, 2026, so you won’t have to wait for the Switch 2 version to get your fix if you already own the game elsewhere. The expansion sees Kay teaming up with the legendary pirate Hondo Ohnaka (yep, the same guy from The Clone Wars and Rebels) to take on Stinger Tash, leader of the Rokana Raiders. If you know Hondo, you know this is going to be a wild ride full of backstabbing, theatrics, and probably some very questionable moral choices. I mean, the guy once said, “I am only in it for the profit!”—sign me up.
In the meantime, the A Pirate’s Fortune DLC is shaping up to be a banger. Hondo Ohnaka’s voice actor, Jim Cummings, always kills it, and I’m itching to see how his trademark “business opportunities” collide with Kay’s desperate situation. The Rokana Raiders are a new threat, and Stinger Tash looks like a proper villain. This expansion could be the perfect appetizer before the main course on Switch 2.
Ubisoft didn’t dish out many more details about the Switch 2 version, but we’ll keep you posted. For now, you can add Star Wars: Outlaws to your ever-growing Switch 2 wish list and start counting the days until September 4. If you’re still on the fence about the game, maybe check out some of the updates and DLC that have rolled out since launch. It’s become a much richer experience, and playing it anywhere thanks to the Switch 2 might just be the perfect excuse to finally dive in.
So there you have it, scoundrels. The galaxy is far, far away, but it’ll be in your hands this fall. Stay tuned, and may the pre-order gods smile upon you soon.
